Hud Hud Award Award

Breaking News: “National Award 2011 to Dabang” Oh sorry! It’s double G i.e. Dabangg. My bad! Yes it’s true and the movie got the highest profile award (Indian) in the Wholesome Entertainment Category. After so many nominations and award winning at many National and International level award ceremonies, it’s time for more action at one of the most prestigious award.
It may not be in the league of movies like Pather Panchali, Raincoat or the last year recipient Paa which stressed on the burning issues, but it has got everything, our junta wants to watch. From hilarious dialogues to pleasant melodies, from powerful action packed scenes to dramatic emotions, from Sallu ki shirt faadu performance to Munni ki badnaami!! What more could an audience ask for? And adding to the glare is the debutant’s heart throbbing dialogue (she uttered only once!!) “thappad se darr nahi lagta saahab, pyaar se lagta hai”.
If we talk about the learning’s, yes there are so many. People have learnt a new way of putting shades at their back. I remember when I came out watching it; the effect of the style was so fast that some of the college students had kept their glares at the back of their t-shirts. Crazy fans! News came of some of the policemen (read UP and Bihar) have started keeping the kind of moustaches Sallu had kept in the movie. Go to any marriage, party or birthday bash these days, you would definitely find the crowd shaking their body on the high beats of Munni Badnaam. Moreover, the primary class students are getting learnt the difference between the active and passive speech by humming some words of “tere mast mast do nain”. At least now we must agree to the decision of the jury.
But eyebrows have been raised by some of the people. They are of the view that the level of respect for the award has decreased by honouring that to the film like Dabangg. According to them, it is a full time entertainer without any quality and social message to the viewers. I would ask these people to ask those viewers who have watched the movie a number of times on theatre, helped in increasing the weight of revenues generation for the producers (and also increased the size of hole in their own pockets!).
Anyhow, whether it was fair or unfair on anybody’s part, the award has already been given to one of the biggest blockbuster of 2010. And our Robinhood Pandey ji with his big brother is dancing all around on the beats of Hud Hud Award Award!!

Mourn on a death of 25 paise coin

Soon, the days will be gone, when you will be transacting something with 25 paise coin. Yes, according to the public notice put Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the 25 paise coins are going to be ceased i.e. demonetised by 30th June ’11. RBI has also asked to get 25paise coins exchanged at the banks by the tantamount. The reason being given is the inflation.
I don’t know how much it will affect the people at large, as only few people still transact in this denomination. But I would definitely mourn the death of it. Even none of my contemporaries could forget this special coin. Have so many lovable memories of it that it could still fill our eyes with tears. Remember, when we were kids and the moment some redywala came shouting for ice-cream, how we used to run behind him with our 25 paise coin! Could you forget the time when mummy filled our pockets with treasure (25 paise) while leaving for the school, and we were like kings/queens of the world at lunch time. I still remember one incident of mine, when I was a 5 year old kid and just started attending pre-nursery school. One of the mate, I prefer using the term mate as by that age I didn’t know whether he was my classmate, was asking for small package pepsi cone from a stall. He flicked the coin to the stall owner and got the cone. I was just admiring him that how happy and joyful he felt post that. From that day onwards, I used to get a coin daily in my pocket. Sometimes kids are so smart!!
We were the kids who used to die for each 25 paise coin. I still remember how my elder sister and I collected the coins in our piggy banks (we had separate) just to save enough money to get something precious. How pleasurable it was to see the piggy bank growing heavier and heavier and also to hear the sound of so many 25 paise coins together. And remember the numerous quarrels we had just because of some 1-2 25paise coins missing. Even today siblings do fight but now it is for some big denominator notes!!
Leaving behind all those fond memories, I still think RBI has thought right away making it demonetised as it has become worthless in today’s world. Gone are the days when you go buying something and you got it in handful of coins. Now try, go, buying anything; from ice-cream to cookies, chocolates to candies, medicines to fruits, nothing has got a mentioning anything in this denomination. Even if we ask somebody for any smaller coins, the very likely answer would be “Chawanni Athanni toh aajkal bhikhari bhi nahi rakhte”.

So wait for 30th June to come, and no kid will be filling his piggy bank with 25 paise coins anymore!!

What a great friend..

Somebody knocked on the door on this Sunday. As I was dreaming in the outermost room of my flat (sometimes I hate!!); I had to open the door. To my surprise cum anger, nobody was there. Then mumbling some good words, I was about to shut the door when I saw a newspaper lying on the floor. Man, why did he knock on the door, he could have put those pages outside the door!! At first, I thought putting my slippers on and pressing the lift button to get a hold on the culprit (broke my aaramwali sleep), but then I saw a packet of milk, so lucky for him that the thought came into mind of having a tea.
I was still feeling very drowsy when I started preparing tea for my friend and myself. Suddenly I heard somebody speaking. I searched for the talking guy, but I didn’t find him. Then I realized, that the sound was coming somewhere from the centre table, where I kept the newspaper. I got shocked, my eyes fell wide open, my dreamy sleep went off, and my half opened eyes got wide open. The ‘Newspaper’ was crying. I tried throwing the newspaper away but didn’t. It was actually yelling and wanted to tell me something. Got nearer to it, told me how tarnished and bad it felt. Asked it, that what had happened that it felt so bad? “Read the news in me”, said the newspaper and “you will get an idea about my worsened condition”.
Being Sunday, chutti ka din, and strange things happening particularly like this, I thought of following the newspaper and started reading. “Tourist bus fell into a valley, 25 people feared dead”. Shri Ganesh, Oh God, why it must have happened, curiosity splashed on my face and started reading the news. It was the news of a hilly area, and due to the negligence by the government, how the condition of roads had worsened. Increasing to the problem was the spring season of the year. Some high authoritative official had shown some sadness and quoted of giving “1lakh” each to the victim of it. What an idea sirji!! This hilly region has been a Macca for millions of tourists since years, and many have died earlier also. Then, why the government officials didn’t take a note of it and had tried to implement the best things to cure this disaster to happen?
Thought of reading something next. “Blast shattered Rampur market, 8 killed 15 hospitalized”. How sad it was! Where were our intelligence agencies, our police, and how did it happen? Sources said “CCTV has captured some footage showing 2 people with bags which were later left beside the electricity pole at the site.” “Minister Rajaram pays homage to the blast victims” and instantly, ufcourse post-blast, announced the yet again “1Lakh” to the victims. Great!! Sources also said that US government had warned about some terrorist activities, but yet again we fell victim to it. In between, the newspaper, my narrator, sadly interfered and said that this was how the government always tried to woo the junta. “Exactly”, I said. By this time, we two (Newspaper and I), didn’t remain the strangers. Just then, I heard some sound and then it clicked to me that my tea had gone and reluctantly (I must say ‘reluctantly’) I left newspaper on the table and ran for the tea.

Happy Diwali

Last Morning, my phone rang and I picked up saying a low tone “hello”. A voice replied “hello, Happy diwali” and I too responded with a genuinely not interested tone “Thanks, happy diwali to you too”. It was my friend and I hung up the call saying would call later. I checked the time, phone showed 09:00 am and I reluctantly got up thinking that yes, today was diwali, the day of enjoying, eating lots of sweets, cleaning, bursting crackers and we (I stay with roomies), should be soon engaged ourselves in cleaning process of our house. We friends started cleaning, somebody was at the kitchen and the other was at the rooms, one cleaning his bathroom, and the other cleaning the utensils. It took almost 1- 1.5 hr to complete the whole activity. And the waste that we all collected now needed to be dumped. Sid, one of my roomie, said “Arey just keep it outside the house, the garbage collector would come and collect it” not giving a damn that the same floor was being shared by 2 more flats. Our apartment builder has built a dump zone for all the garbage at each floor and I was of the view that we could dump the garbage collected there itself. Thanks, don’t know to whom, he didn’t do that and put it in the dump zone. I said to myself “happy diwali”.
It is one day when most of the people want to make Laxmi, the goddess of money, happy and the bachelors don’t remain behind in doing that fully fledged. Yes, again we all started decorating Pooja sthan with diyas and Chinese manufactured lights. Suddenly my phone rang again, and this time it was my father, said “happy diwali son” and I replied, this time cherishingly, “happy diwali” and he told me to make a note of not eating sweets made up of Mewa. Sad, one of my so called definitions of diwali (eating sweets) was ruined and the reason given that the pure Mewa was not being used in the sweets. I said “ok” and a short thanks (reluctantly) for not letting me eat impure sweet.
An evening came and I went out to meet some of my friends. Outside the apartment, a group of 10-15 people, young people were trying to enjoy Diwali. They were standing there just outside the apartment gate, shouting, not letting the vehicles easy way in or out both, passing vulgar remarks garishly ( in quest for enjoying) among themselves only. They didn’t care for any other person in the name of enjoyment of the festival. I saw them and again my other definition gone in vain.
As I entered my friend’s house, lots of friends were already there as I was the last one to come (as usual but I always try to manage) and we all greeted each other. After some talks we decided to go down to burst crackers. Although I have stopped bursting crackers since a long time, I went down with them (else I had to sit aloneL). They started bursting them, everybody was enjoying, some were startled by its lights, and some were putting fingers in their ears to resist the sound of crackers and some like me watching everybody. I also joined them in lighting fooljhadi and firkiri. But then, I was looking at the noise, the fog of pollution created by the crackers, and the wastage of money and thinking that is it a real diwali. And then, thereafter accruing to my thoughts of mind, garbage created over was left there only, and nobody took, even the empty boxes, to the dump zone. Is it really a Diwali we were celebrating, by polluting both the environment and the eatables, by wasting money, by shouting vulgarly?
But then if everybody was busy doing all this, they all could not be wrong!! We went inside the house and then I kept all thoughts in some lonely part of my brain when we had homemade food and my mind said to me “All’s well that ends well”.

Recently you must have heard a lot about one word i.e. Austerity. Everybody using it, some in the airplanes, others in rails and yet others, in cars, too. But do we really get the real meaning. Are we really following on the meaning of it? I have my own meaning too, may be right or wrong.
The dictionary defines it as severity of manner life, sternness, ascetic practices. But how!!
The answer lies in the consciousness. Consciousness towards the society, creating awareness towards the requirements of the society, which is needed from its people Yes, we people. It’s all about having the courage to get things changed that is required, “the big need of an hour”.
There are areas of concern which requires our immediate attention like clean water, energy preservation, education, pollution, equality in terms of gender, recycling of waste etc.
We know that there is scarcity of resources, knowledge, and foresight. No such circumstances can be found for the present epoch. Things should be done constructively and not destructively. One should always try to move in the forward direction.
What is going wrong is stumbling upon the same stone time and again. No, that’s not a correct manner if one wants to remain in the race of development. How come after getting more than 50 years of independence we are still in the league of developing nations. All above mentioned are the hindrances for the same. I don’t say that none of us is doing anything. People are trying to make a big difference by working as a part of various NGO’s, which are teaching children, giving them books, money, shelter etc. These organizations are also motivating people to do right things and making them aware of activities through different kinds of advertisements. These are some of the things many organizations are working on, but still if we look at the root level, then we can find that many things seems to be going haphazardly and not producing the right result because of the red tapism in politics and bad management, people are not getting the resources allocated for them.
So now it’s a need of an hour that we austere ourselves, in the way of taking up responsibilities toward our society. Also we should look forward taking up of initiatives for making our country, our nation, a better place to live. We all know, what is good and what is bad for our society, but the only thing which is missing is the awareness amongst the citizens and remember this truly said quote "God gave me nothing I wanted; he gave me everything I needed".
